TÜBA Young Academy represented at the UN Second World Social Development Summit

Organised by the United Nations (UN), the Second World Social Development Summit was held in Doha, the capital of Qatar. Prof. Dr. Mehmet Fatih Aysan, a member of the TÜBA Young Academy Executive Board, represented the TÜBA Young Academy at the Summit, while Prof. Dr. Ahmet Faruk Aysan, a full member of TÜBA, also took part in the delegation.

Held at the Qatar National Convention Centre, the summit aimed to review global commitments to social development, address inequalities, promote decent work and inclusivity, and accelerate the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The event brought together heads of state and government, ministers, and representatives from international organisations, civil society organisations, academic institutions, and the private sector.

Throughout the Summit, Prof. Dr. Mehmet Fatih Aysan participated in numerous panels and parallel sessions focusing on topics such as digital transformation, the future of labor markets, education, health, inequalities, and climate resilience. He engaged in exchanges with a wide range of stakeholders and emphasized that the Summit was highly productive in terms of strengthening international academic and institutional cooperation, enhancing the contribution of scientific research to social development, and reinforcing science–policy–society interaction.

During the Summit, the delegation held bilateral meetings with representatives of UN-affiliated institutions and international civil society organizations working in the fields of social inclusion, poverty reduction, social protection, employment, and the role of technology in development. These meetings provided an opportunity to introduce the ongoing activities of the TÜBA Young Academy and to discuss potential collaborations in areas such as joint research and capacity building.
