TÜBA Young Academy at the Hungarian Academy of Sciences' 200th Anniversary Celebrations
The 200th Anniversary Celebration Events held in Budapest to mark the 200th anniversary of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (MTA) brought together scientists and academy representatives from different countries around the world. Representing Turkey at the program were TÜBA President Prof. Dr. Muzaffer Şeker and TÜBA Young Academy Representative Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mürsel Doğrul.
During the event, MTA President Prof. Dr. Tamás Freund and Prof. Şeker met and renewed the Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation between TÜBA and MTA. The new protocol aims to strengthen scientific knowledge sharing, joint research topics, and academic exchange opportunities between Turkey and Hungary. Prof. Şeker was also honored with the MTA Silver Medal of Appreciation for his contributions to scientific cooperation.
Throughout the program, scientific sessions organized in partnership with MTA and the European Academies (ALLEA) addressed knowledge sharing, common research areas, and collaboration opportunities among science academies in Europe. Panels titled “The Future of Scientific Collaboration,” “The Interaction Between Science and Society,” “The Global Role of Young Scientists,” and “Preserving Scientific Heritage and Digital Transformation” attracted significant interest. In addition, the session “Maintaining Integrity in Scientific Advice: Fundamental Principles and Challenges,” organized by ALLEA and the European Academies' Science Advisory Panel (SAPEA), discussed ethical values, transparency, reliability, and the future of science-policy relations in scientific advice. TÜBA shared its views and experiences on scientific ethics and trust-based advisory models with national academies across Europe.
During the visit, Prof. Dr. István Vásáry, a Turkologist, was presented with the TÜBA Honorary Member Certificate, while Prof. Şeker gifted him a copy of The Historical Atlas of Turkic States. At the end of the program, Prof. Şeker visited the International Maarif School established by the Maarif Foundation in Budapest and evaluated the educational activities carried out there.
