TÜBA Young Academy at the “Un/Governance in the Mediterranean Region and the Global System”

Members of the TÜBA Young Academy were actively represented at the international conference titled “Un/Governance in the Mediterranean Region and the Global System,” hosted by Istanbul Nişantaşı University and organized in collaboration with the TÜBA International Relations Working Group and the Mediterranean Academies Network (EMAN).

The conference was opened by TÜBA President Prof. Dr. Muzaffer Şeker, EMAN President and TÜBA Full Member Prof. Dr. Ahmet Nuri Yurdusev, and Nişantaşı University Rector and TÜBA Full Member Prof. Dr. Ayşegül Komsuoğlu. The opening speeches emphasized the importance of scientific cooperation and academic diplomacy, while drawing attention to the need to renew global governance mechanisms on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the United Nations.

TÜBA Young Academy members stood out with their scientific contributions throughout the conference.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mürsel Doğrul, representing the Young Academy, moderated the session and led the discussions. In the closing section, he summarized the highlights of the program with his general evaluation.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Efe Can Gürcan comprehensively addressed the changing governance dynamics in the international system in his paper titled “Multipolarity and the Transformation of Global Governance.”

Dr. Eliza Gheorghe, Assistant Professor, evaluated critical issues in the context of security governance in her presentation titled “De Facto States and Nuclear Security.” Prof. Dr. Dilek Altun and Prof. Dr. Hacer Topaktaş Üstüner contributed to the discussions in the sessions they participated in, strengthening the visibility of TÜBA Young Academy in international scientific collaborations.

The conference, organized within the framework of the 80th anniversary of the United Nations, brought together distinguished scientists from our country and various other countries and comprehensively addressed critical themes such as global governance, human security, health, energy supply security, climate change, cultural interaction, and migration. The moderation roles undertaken by TÜBA members and the active participation of the Young Academy in the program highlighted the growing role of young scientists in international science diplomacy.

The EMAN Executive Committee meeting held within the scope of the conference provided an important platform for discussions on strengthening scientific cooperation in the Mediterranean region.

TÜBA Young Academy remains committed to increasing the international visibility of young researchers, encouraging scientific production, and contributing to science diplomacy.
