Science Award to TÜBA Young Academy Member Prof. Öçsoy
TÜBA Young Academy Member Prof. Dr. İsmail Öçsoy was presented with the Science Award by the Turkish Pharmacists' Association (TEB) Pharmacy Academy.
The awards were presented at the 2025 Science, Service, and Incentive Awards ceremony. These awards are presented to "evaluate the outstanding research, work, and services of scientists conducting research in the field of pharmaceutical sciences and/or who are members of these fields, to publicize the outstanding qualifications of individuals who serve the pharmacy profession, and to serve as a source of encouragement."
Erciyes University, Faculty of Pharmacy faculty member Prof. Dr. İsmail Öçsoy received the Science Award for his scientific research and studies, as well as his significant contributions to pharmaceutical sciences at a universal level.
Who is Prof. Dr. İsmail Öçsoy?
Prof. Dr. İsmail Öçsoy completed his master's (2011) and doctoral studies (2014) at the University of Florida in the United States under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Weihong Tan, a leading scientist in the field of nanobiotechnology. He began working as an assistant professor at Erciyes University's Faculty of Pharmacy in 2015. He was promoted to associate professor in 2017 and full professor in 2023. He was invited back to the United States in 2015 and 2016 to work as a visiting professor at the University of Florida.
Dr. Öçsoy was selected as a National Leading Researcher in 2022 under the 2247-A National Leading Researchers Program for his research and project on Mycobacterium tuberculosis, becoming one of 31 National Leading Researchers in Turkey. In 2022, he was elected as a member of the Scientific Committee on "Medical Devices and Diagnostic Kits" by the Turkish Institutes of Health (TÜSEB).
He was awarded the TÜBA Outstanding Young Scientist (GEBİP) Award in 2018, the METU Prof. Dr. Mustafa Parlar Education and Research Foundation Research Incentive Award in 2019, and the Science Academy (BAGEP) Young Scientists and Science Heroes Association Scientist of the Year Award in 2020.
In 2021, he placed first in Turkey in the "Medical Innovations and Discoveries" category of the JCI-Turkey TOYP (Türkiye's Most Successful Young Person) Awards. In 2022, he received the Aziz Sancar Incentive Award from the Turkish Institutes of Health (TÜSEB), the Doctor Club Award for R&D/Innovation Application of the Year at the Health Initiative Awards in 2023, and the Best Research Article Award in Chemistry from the Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in 2024. He also received the Doctoral Thesis Award (Advisor) from the TÜBA-TEKNOFEST Doctoral Science Awards.
Dr. Öçsoy, whose scientific work has received 6,835 citations according to Google Scholar and an H-index of 48, represents Turkey as a member of the Management Committee (MC) in three COST Actions at the European Cooperation in Science and Technology (COST).
